Why is that watch called ... the Rolex Batman.

Incredibly sort after, massively popular the Rolex Batman is one well known Rolex.
So - why IS it called a Batman, and what’s so fabulous about it?
The Batman Rolex was first created in 2013 and called the Rolex GMT-Master II, ref. 116710BLNR - not very catchy at all.
It got its nickname from the black and blue ceramic bezel which was reminiscent of Batman's colours in the classic comic book.
It's worth paying attention to that ceramic bezel because it was the first time Rolex had been able to make a two tone bezel entirely of ceramic. The use of Cerachrom (Rolex’s own ceramic) was not a new thing but the two tone definitely was.

The blue and black are not just for show either - as its a GMT watch and can tell the time in in different time zones it needed to be able to indicate AM or PM - that’s the blue half for day and the black half for night.

In 2019, Rolex released a successor model; the Rolex GMT-Master II ref. 126710BLNR, both are 'Batman', both are popular with fans, and both retain their value, though the original 2013 models, mounted on an Oyster bracelet, have the longest waiting/desirable lists.

Currently at the time of writing Watch Buyers has a Rolex Batman for sale - all the above pictures are of it and you can read its details by clicking here.
