If you’re worried your Rolex might not be genuine, you’re not alone. It’s one of the most common concerns we hear.
The short answer: you can’t sell a fake Rolex as a luxury watch. However -

First Things First: Don’t Panic
Many people inherit watches or buy them years ago without paperwork. That doesn’t automatically mean it’s fake.
At Watch Buyers, we regularly check watches where the owner simply isn’t sure. We deal with so many Rolex watches we can often tell just by picking them up, but check in many more ways to be sure.
We check the overall quality, that the colouring, and details on dials, are as they should be.
We check serial numbers are correct and in the right places, and that known security features are where they should be.
We look at the watch to see if it is working well, thoroughly inspecting the movement after removing the case back.
What Happens If It Is Fake?
If your watch turns out not to be genuine:
- It has no resale value as a luxury watch
- We won’t be able to purchase it
- But we’ll always explain why it isn’t authentic
No pressure, no awkwardness—just clarity.
What If It’s Real?
This is more common than people expect.
Even without box or papers, a genuine Rolex can still be worth hundreds or thousands of pounds.
