Grand opening of the new Hublot Boutique, Frankfurt.
Among a selection of eye-catching timepieces studded with rare black diamonds, white diamonds, sapphires and rubies (each one valued at $1 million each), the announced, game-changing launch of its very first Big Bang Tourbillon watch, was arguably the stand-out event of the Big Bang anniversary tour.
The Big Bang Tourbillon Power Reserve 5 Days is a stunning piece of jewellery with an impressive pedigree. It is set in the new-generation 45 mm Big Bang case, and features a skeleton tourbillon which is both traditional and modern.
The watch boasts a HUB6016 hand-made movement with a power reserve of 115 hours, or five days. The traditional tourbillon performs one revolution every minute at 6 o’clock and it features a contemporary power reserve indicator at 9 o’clock, so you know when you need to wind it up.
The selection of bracelets includes a black structured lined rubber strap or black alligator strap, with a black PVD titanium and black ceramic buckle clasp (which comes as standard with the Magic Gold model); a black PVD titanium and King Gold insert deployant buckle clasp (on the King Gold version), and titanium with titanium insert deployant buckle clasp (on the titanium version). However, all the watches come with a highly secure interchangeable bracelet attachment system, the same on that Hublot had previously used in its Big Bang Ferrari Carbon and the Big Bang UNICO Italia Independent collections.
The Big Bang Tourbillon 5-day Power Reserve Indicator Full Magic Gold is available in King Gold (that reddish-gold colour that Hublot is so famous for), Magic Gold (a scratch-proof 18ct yellow gold alloy mix) and titanium, and the entire collection is limited to just 199 pieces – that’s 50 in Magic Gold, and 99 each in King Gold and titanium.
The original Big Bang collection debuted in 2005, just one year after the arrival of current CEO Jean-Claude Biver. Initially presented as a chronograph range, it was a huge success and received a multitude of awards across the world.
Over the past ten years, the collection has become a modern classic, and has been spotted on the wrists of Alex ‘A-Rod’ Rodriguez, Usain Bolt, and Lionel Richie, to name just a few.
The design and limited availability of the new tourbillon model are likely to elevate it to cult status, and reignite interest in what has now become one of the brand’s foremost collections.
