F1 and Rolex: A Marriage Made in Heaven

Rolex & Formula 1 If two brands ever seem to be made for each other, it has to be Formula 1 and Rolex. Sharing values that epitomise the spirit of adventure and advanced technological wizardry, the recent formation of a Global Partnership between the two field leaders seems a marriage made in heaven. Rolex will be the Official Timekeeper and Official Timepiece from 2013 onwards. The time at each Grand Prix will be displayed by Rolex, who will also display their logo around the track in strategic locations. The CEO of the Formula One Group, Mr Bernie Ecclestone, has said that it's a partnership everyone interested in F1 racing will be excited about and that it's exactly the right place for Rolex to be. The prestigious watch brand has a long association with motor-racing personalities, including Sir Jackie Stewart, winner of three Formula One World Championships, who has expressed his delight over the partnership, stating that Rolex is very careful over its relationship choices. Regarding Rolex's long history of associations with motor sport, he speaks of the Rolex Daytona timepiece, the Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona and its testament to Rolex's unwavering commitment to performance. After Rolex become a partner to the Daytona International Speedway in Florida, the circuit gave its name to the now legendary chronograph that was developed specially for racing drivers. The Daytona timepiece is proudly sported by Tom Kristensen, Rolex ambassador and winner of the 2013 24 hours of Le Mans for the ninth time. It's unusual for Rolex to make a fuss about nominating an ambassador, but that's exactly what they did when they made the announcement in 2010. The 24 Hours of Le Mans is the oldest active endurance race event and is known for its demands on both drivers and cars, which must run for 24 hours without mechanical damage. Drivers frequently spend over two hours behind the wheel before taking a break while relief drivers take over. The race is held annually and has been running since 1923. So demanding is the race that over the years the rules regarding driver safety have been refined several times. As it now stands, three drivers take over driving duties during the 24 hours with no one driver behind the wheel for longer than 14 hours out of the 24. For Rolex owners and in particular those who wish to sell Rolex watches, the announcement of the partnership with Formula One can only add to the value and prestige of the brand in general. Aficionados of Rolex watches will be watching the movement in values in the coming years, since the F1 partnership creates an extra buzz of excitement amongst fans of both brands. The younger generation in particular are expected to take an extra interest in the opportunity to buy and sell Rolex watches.
