Director James Cameron and his Rolex watches

James Cameron is known for directing science fiction and incredibly epic style films, such as Alien, Titanic, Avatar and now - Avatar: the way of the water.

A keen environmentalist with a passion for sea exploration - this is not a man who sits down and puts his feet up often!  He’s a Rolex ambassador so its no surprise he is pictured with various Rolex watches, and looking at all he does, where he goes and what he creates - there's no better ambassador Rolex could ask for.

Apparently as a reward to himself after the success of the movie Aliens in 1986 he treated him self to a Rolex Submariner that he had always wanted. This is before he was associated with Rolex work wise - they really are his watch of choice. He’s not only worn it to the Oscars for the record breaking Titanic, but he wore it for 33 dives to the Titanic wreck, on set whilst filming various movies and during his expeditions on the MIR Submersibles.

In 2012 James worked with numerous companies, including Rolex, on a mission to explore the Mariana Trench in the deepest parts of the ocean. A whole new vessel capable of going to these depths had to be created. Whilst manning this 'Deepsea Challenger' ( and doing it solo!) he was pictured wearing the Rolex Seadweller Deepsea. This watch, built for extreme depth resistance, was exactly the right watch for the job!

Two years after the expedition Rolex released a special version of the Deepsea in honour of James Cameron and the successful deepsea challenge. - the Rolex Deepsea D-Blue.

This watch was given a gradient blue dial - of dark blue to black; representing the colours of the deep. The word DEEPSEA in the centre of the watch was coloured the same green as the challenger vessel.

Unsurprisingly in watch circles this is known as the James Cameron Rolex.   Rolex have said it was the first of its kind to be designed for an event and a personality.
