Many timepieces were under discussion at this year's Baselworld, but it appears that the new release from Omega somehow managed to slip under the radar. Expert opinion is that whilst the Globemaster took centre stage at Baselworld and was in huge demand, the latest Seamaster Chronograph may have been overlooked.
This is by no means any reflection on the superior quality of the watch more that little information has so far been published regarding the Seamaster Chronograph.
A WellKept Secret
What do we know about the new Seamaster Chronograph, apart from it being one of the bestkept secrets in horological circles of recent times? Although information has been scant, a few images have been released and are already causing an enthusiastic stir amongst lovers of bespoke timepieces.
Special Edition
The ENTZ Seamaster Chronograph is a specialedition watch from the Globemaster collection one of the world's most respected diving watches. As it's a limitededition watch, demand is expected to be high.
Inspiration
Experts believe that the new Seamaster Chronograph takes its inspiration from earlier ETNZ versions. Predecessors of this latest edition were powered by Omega's Caliber 3330 and limited to the same number as the year in which the watch was released. As an example, for the 34th America's Cup in 2013, 2,013 watches were produced. The company could well follow the same format for this new edition.
Omega has been a stalwart supporter of the Emirates Team New Zealand (ETNZ) for some time, and this watch reflects the powerfulness and precision of this elite team. The Omega Seamaster ETNZ Chronograph is also said to celebrate ETNZ's contribution to the most exciting competition in the America's Cup history and will be dedicated to the 35th America's Cup race in 2017.
Features
Watch enthusiasts have already dissected the features of the latest Globemaster edition, with most giving the watch the thumbsup. The watch still has a crown at 10 o'clock with a helium release valve. Critics do point out, however, that this still is somewhat unusual for a 300metre waterresistant watch that is geared towards sailing. At 3 o'clock, the watch features a handy 30minute regatta timer which is able to measure the fiveminute countdown to the start of the regatta. This is a particularly nice feature of the watch and has been well received by watch enthusiasts.
Another feature of the watch that makes it distinctive and has caught the attention of bespoke watch fans is that all of the chronographrelated features are in red on the watch face, which also corresponds nicely to the strap of the watch.
The white date display offers an element of balance for the dial in combination with the 12 o'clock index. The polished numbers on the matte bezel, the red chronograph pusher at 2 o'clock and the handy regatta timer on the subdial also combine to make this watch an impeccable addition to anyone looking for a sailingthemed timepiece.
As with the previous model of the Globemaster watch, the new edition features the ETNZ logo on the caseback.
